This Friday, January 18th, the ever amazing Panama City POPS Orchestra will be performing the "Battle of the Batons" concert at the Marina Civic Center in Panama City. If you haven’t heard or seen these guys then we can guarantee a fantastic evening of music that will leave you breathless! This particular performance comes with a twist though…..in addition to the spectacular combination of light classical pieces and toe-tapping arrangements, this fourth annual fundraiser will see 3 local luminaries battling for the opportunity to conduct the final work of the night’s program.
It’s all about the ladies this year, and be prepared for a showdown! Contenders for the role are the honorable Gayle Oberst, Mayor of Panama City Beach, Bay County School Board member Ginger Littleton and WMBB-TV News Anchor Jessica Foster. Each lovely lady will show off her conducting skills prior to intermission, and then members of the audience will be able to vote for their favorite! Each vote costs $1.00.
The first half of the concert will feature various classical pieces, including "The Marriage of Figaro Overture" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; George Bizet's "Farandole," his incidental music to the play, "L’Arlesienne;" and the "Academic Festival" Overture by Johannes Brahms.
The second half of this Panama City Pops production will feature popular favorites by modern composers and the presentation of unique hand-carved batons to each guest conductor. The batons have been beautifully created by Mr. Bruce Goldflies, who is the father of orchestra member and local business owner David Goldflies.
This fourth annual Panama City Pops Orchestra “Battle of the Batons” is set to be a very special evening, and one that the whole family can enjoy. Whatever your taste in music, you won’t want to miss this sensational production and fundraiser – we hope to see you there!
